Healthy Pre School

25th May 2011

Schoolhouse Day Nursery is delighted to inform you that they have agreed to participate in the
Carmarthenshire Health Promoting Pre School Scheme. The scheme mirrors the Health Promoting
School Scheme which is in place in all schools in Carmarthenshire and should help to assist a smooth
transition as your child progresses through school.

Involvement in the scheme will help to ensure a consistent approach to food and health for your
children. Nutritional snacks, healthy meals and drinks will be offered within an environment which
seeks to promote a happy and healthy way of life. Schoolhouse Day Nursery will be looking at
nutrition, oral health, management and hygiene over the next twelve months with other areas such
as safety, environment, play and emotional health being introduced later. Information supporting
these areas will be sent home from time to time to offer guidance and for parents to give their
feedback.

In order for the scheme to be successful everyone involved in the life of the nursery needs to be
made aware of it and be a part of it. Evidence shows that good nutrition and a well balanced diet
from an early age is important for children to get the best out of their education and in order to
establish healthy habits for their future.
